Elliott was admitted to practice in Massachusetts in 1968, when he began working for the Boston law firm of Mintz, Levin. In 1971, with three other Mintz, Levin associates he founded the Boston, Massachusetts law firm which was to become Topkins, Gaffin and Krattenmaker. He left that firm in 1987 to become Senior Vice president and General Counsel for Commonwealth Mortgage Company, Inc., the then largest Fannie Mae mortgage lender in New England. He founded the law firm of Elliott S Topkins while associated with Commonwealth Mortgage, and continued the practice under the name of Law Offices of Elliott S. Topkins, after he left Commonwealth Mortgage until Bob Bevans joined him as a partner in 1995.

While at Commonwealth Mortgage, Elliott started a mortgage loan closing company named Advantage Escrow Company, which closed substantially all of Commonwealth Mortgage’s loan in Massachusetts and many loans in other New England states. Advantage escrow developed some forward thinking approaches to the loan closing process such as having refinance closings in people’s homes and purchase transaction in realtor’s offices.

When he left Commonwealth Mortgage, Elliott has continued to close residential mortgage loans and to assist buyers, sellers and real estate professionals in all aspects of the real estate world. He has worked with developers of new condominiums and condominium conversions. He serves as legal counsel to several Massachusetts Condominiums.

Elliott lives with his wife Joanne in Milton, Massachusetts. He has four children, two grandchildren and a third grandchild on the way. He enjoys spending time with his family, most of whom live in New York city, and an occasional round of golf.

“This blog is my way of reaching out to the many real estate professionals whom I have worked with over the years,” Elliott has said in a recent interview. “I want to give my friends in the real estate business the benefit of my more than forty years of working on real estate transactions. I hope that they will find the articles and responses to their inquiries helpful and that we can establish a dialogue which they will find lively, enjoyable and helpful in their real estate activities.”

Leigh–That is a most gracious comment and truly appreciated. Blogging is my opportunity to “spread the word” about things I have seen, and experienced over the 40 years I have been practicing. I hope things are going well for you

Elliott has handled many closing transactions for me over the years. My team and I truly enjoy working with his firm and our clients always appreciate the level of service they receive from T&B. Very few attorneys will go above and beyond for my clients like Elliott does.

Best,

RHB
